You never really expect your opening line on Hinge to be the first interaction with your future spouse. But nearly two years later, Kat and Tommy are happy to share that their love story did in fact all begin when Tommy messaged: “As someone who drinks at least 300 mg of caffeine daily, I’d love to hear your tips" — in response to Kat’s proud *temporary* accomplishment of quitting caffeine. From there Kat was quick to start daydreaming about their first date. And luckily for her, it wasn’t long before Tommy got her number and initiated it. It also wasn’t long before they discovered they both grew up in the same church and youth group. Unfortunately, it was long before they went on that said first date due to Tommy traveling and getting sick, which left Kat thinking he was just another guy playing games. He wasn’t. He took her on their first date on August 31st, 2023, for drinks at Hawker’s Street Kitchen and spent the next year and a half proving himself to be the man her parents had prayed for since she was a little girl :") They made things official in November of 2023 and on March 1st, 2025, he proposed out on the Old Town waterfront right where they had their more than successful 12-hour-long third date!

Tommy and Kat feel so incredibly blessed to have a relationship where they feel just as matched in their light-hearted interests as they do in the most important thing: their faith. And they are quite literally counting down the days until they get to celebrate alongside each of you as they enter into this sacred union with God, each other, and their families!!

After 25 years, Victoria has been Kat’s best friend, mentor, and most importantly: her influencer. From going to Harry Potter World together after Tori assured her that the flight anxiety would be worth it to running through DC together after Tori convinced Kat to sign up for her first half — Kat has done a lot with Tori, and even more because of her. Not just because of Tori's big sis influence, but because of her adventerous nature and contagious enthusiasm— which Kat can only hope have slightly rubbed off on her. So make sure to meet the woman behind some of Kat’s best moments, *just not when she’s eating up her MoH speech or dancing her heart out to “Come on Eileen”.*

After living in the same room for more than 10 years, it comes as no shock that Matt is Tommy’s best friend. Born only 18 months after Tommy, they were often mistaken for twins as kids, though Tommy is sad to say that Matt overtook him in height long ago. He is always ready with a quick joke or a good story, so be sure to get the inside scoop from him on anything he doesn't have time to cover in his best man speech (there's a lot of content). And while Tommy can't predict what may come out of his mouth, he can guarantee that Matt will bring the entertainment.

Sarah may legally be called a sis-in-law, but to Kat she’s much more of a close friend. Unsurprising considering Garrett’s fine work at finding a girl who loves reading just as much as shopping and shows loyalty to Kat as if they’ve known each other forever. Most importantly, Kat can always count on Sarah to bring “the girls are girlin’” energy to every event big or small. Expect that and her "type A" personality to be at peak performance on wedding day — which may even have you mistaking her for Kat’s wedding planner. Don't fret, that confusion will be put to rest once you see her belting out every swiftie song and springsteen classic on the dancefloor!!

Mike is the older brother that Tommy and Matt looked up to and could always count on for a good time. Whether it be feeding them bullion cubes as “space food” in their pretend Apollo space missions or directing them in movies on his camcorder (always cancelled due to “budget cuts”), Mike always brought the fun. Today, he plays bass in a local band and also started a record label for DC performers, making him the perfect man to talk to about anything and everything music-related.

Ever since 2014 when Kat and Senna stepped onto the basketball court in their cute lil’ cheer uniforms, doing things together became the rule not the exception. From doing lacrosse that next spring to throwing a joint grad party, Senna was the common denominator in many of Kat’s fondest high school memories and continues to be a part of some of the best ones she’s making now. Talk to her at the wedding and you’ll understand why. With a heart of absolute gold and top tier humor, Senna exudes love, kindness, and sincerity like no other and, most importantly, is a master at a good, solid giggle sesh.

After Tommy moved to a new school for his freshman year of high school, he became fast friends with Jalil after playing freshman football together. Although they both quit after that first year, they stayed close friends — quite literally. They both ended up going to the University of Richmond, both ended up at the same company after graduating, and even ended up living together post-grad. Jalil has been Tommy’s best friend through late-night study sessions, numerous road trips, and overtime grind sessions at work.

Trin was Kat’s first official introduction to her new high school class at Trinity, and considering her golden retriever personality and contagious energy it’s no surprise that that one, albeit slightly forced, interaction led to a lifelong friendship. Trin loves deeply, cheers insanely loud for the ppl in her corner, and has been just as much of a staple in Kat’s “adult” life as she was in their tiny TCS bubble. At the wedding expect Trin to be handing out hugs like your family and shedding more than a few tears — but rest assured that will not keep her from clinking your glass and jumping on the dance floor once the music starts.

When Tommy met Joe his freshman year of high school, they instantly clicked. They both loved sports, the Ravens, and playing golf — all of the important things. Though they ended up at different colleges, they continued to visit each other often, and still do. Joe has always been the easygoing guy his friends know they can rely on, so Tommy is very glad to have him stand next to him on his wedding day.

Ellie was the absolute “it” girl in Kat’s 9th grade English class, so Kat never would’ve believed she’d be lucky enough to consider her a best friend. Yet within weeks she found herself giddily moving into a seat right by Ellie herself, *shortly* followed by her moving right back because they couldn’t stop chitchatting. All those convos may not have given them perfect grades, but it gave Kat a friend who, 11 years later, she can’t picture her wedding day without. Expect Ellie to be excitedly clapping at every turn and definitely don’t hesitate to head her way if you want recs for her now home NYC or wanna hear her nerd out over art.

In high school, Tyler’s house was always the place to be, and lucky for Tommy Tyler welcomed him with open arms right after they met. Though they were friends throughout high school and college, their friendship deepened when they lived together two years post-grad. While Tyler is always down for a chill night in with his boys, he’s also always game for a good night out, so definitely don’t miss him on the dance floor.

Your final year of college is not the typical time to make a best friend, so it tracks that ever spontaneous Emma was quick to befriend Kat after meeting her in the library the start of their senior year. Although, their friendship really began when Kat took the risk of inviting Emma soon after to roadtrip with her to an EDM concert… the very next night. And Emma enthusiastically said yes. The most fitting start to Kat’s most unpredictably fun friendship.  At the wedding, you can expect Emma to be chatting up, charming, and most definitely befriending any and every guest in her effortless Emma way.

Nathan and Tommy have been friends since high school, although they truly bonded while taking two unforgettable post-grad trips out west — a road trip out to Yellowstone National Park and a week-long trip hiking and exploring Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies. Though Nathan seemingly lives in a new city every year, they see each other as often as possible and are always eyeing their next boys’ trip.

Ever since Aubrey joined Kat for a coffee to reconnect (or “fika" as Aubs would say), the friend from Kat’s nostalgic, childhood memories became the same one walking with her through post-grad life, bumping shoulders with her in church, and most importantly, “coffee shopping” with her. Whether they're simply working in each other's company, sharing their most unfiltered feelings, or discussing niche interests (ask Aubrey about traditional Irish singing), those times spent sippin' lattes is all walls down. Expect the wedding to be no different. Her tears will be big, her smile even bigger, and her dancing will be absolutely shameless. 

Aubrey Kuhn

Connor was one of the first friends Tommy made at the University of Richmond. In their time there, they were constantly hanging out, whether it be a late-night study session in the Business School, getting out to play a round of golf, or just hanging out at their college apartments. Though they don’t see each other every day like they did in college, Connor remains a close friend, and Tommy couldn’t be happier to have his support on wedding day.

If Carrie Bradshaw ditched the magazines for Brönte novels and consumed far more Taylor Swift songs than cigarettes that’d be Nancy. Slightly intimidating? Yes, but before Kat could shy away the first night they met, Nancy took her under her wing and swept her into her hotel room as they chatted through dress options for the weekend. Looking back, Kat shouldn’t have expected anything less. Since then Nancy even generously hosted her in her NYC apt and managed to keep her up past 2am as they gushed over their Friday night escapades. Needless to say, Nancy is one to save a chat for! *Kat is not responsible for any passionate T-Swift debates that may ensue*

Though Tommy already has two brothers, he is thrilled to soon have another in Kat’s brother Garrett. They hit it off quickly at a football tailgate, and since then have become good friends. In fact, Garrett was the first person Tommy went to for advice when he started shopping for Kat’s engagement ring, where Garrett brought a literal sheet of advice for Tommy. Needless to say, he pours himself into every conversation he’s in so definitely don’t hesitate to head his way if you’re looking for a fun cocktail hour convo.

Wedding Party

We have two room blocks in downtown Richmond — details below! Both are a quick Uber ride away from Richmond International Airport and a 40-minute drive from the venue. We will offer a shuttle service from each hotel to the venue: Historic Whitewood. Shuttles will arrive to pick guests up at 2:30 PM to depart each hotel at 2:45 PM sharp and offer return rides once the reception concludes at 10 PM. Airbnb's are also plentiful in the area if you'd prefer to stay closer to the venue. However, staying at the hotels will give you the easiest access to the airport and both the Friday welcome party and Saturday after-party in downtown Richmond. Check the Q&amp;A tab for more info!
